Choshi Port Wholesale Fish Market
Choshi port has had the largest catch in Japan for the last five years.
The wholesale business is massive, with three separate sites dealing with different fish unloaded from various types of fishing boats.
The tuna market is held at the newly refurbished Choshi First Fish market. You can get an unobstructed view of the whole process of unloading, sorting and auctioning from the visitor's gallery on the second floor.If this whets your appetite, try some of the dishes made with freshly landed fish at the “Maiwai” restaurant downstairs.

The new wholesale market utilises a state -of -the-art sanitary system for tuna (HACCP), employing thorough hygiene and quality controls.
This system is the basis by which raw tuna is judged before being sent out all over Japan.
All kinds of tuna are landed here, from 100kg Bigeye tuna to Pacific blue fin tuna, Yellow fin tuna, Swordfish, etc.They are a very impressive sight.

By train
Take the "Choshi Dentetsu Line" from "Choshi Station" and get off at "Kannon station".
Approx.15 mins walk from "Kannon Stn".

From Kannon station
Come out of "Kannon station", turn left and go straight.
Cross over the main road and keep walking.
You'll see Enpukuji temple on your right.
Turn right at the end of the street. The fish market is in the large white building on your left, next to the river.
By Chiba Kotsu bus
Take the bus bound for "Nagasaki" from "bus stop #5" at "Choshi Stn". and get off at "Choshi Kannon bus stop".
The market is a Approx.5 mins walk from the "Choshi Kannon bus stop".

From Choshi Kannon bus stop
Walk towards the shrine.
Turn left in front Enpukuji Temple gate and keep walking.
Turn right at the end of the street. The fish market is in the large white building on your left, next to the river.
By Misaki Meguri shuttle bus
Take the "Misaki Meguri shuttle bus" from "bus stop #4" at "Choshi Station" and get off at "Dai Ichi Wo Ichiba bus stop".
